Halloween Pumpkin Meatloaf for Dogs, Two Ways

One turkey-and-pumpkin base becomes a cosy seasoned family dinner and a separate plain Halloween bowl for your dog—with pumpkin-shaped mini meatloaves and sweet-potato ghosts.

The Halloween rule: divide the plain turkey mixture before any seasoning is added. The dog bowl must stay free from onion, garlic, salty sauces, rich gravy, chocolate, sweets and sugar-free products containing xylitol.

🍽️ Shared base + human finish

Makes four human servings.

Shared plain base

  • 750 g lean turkey mince
  • 240 g pure pumpkin puree—not sweetened pie filling
  • 1 egg
  • 80 g rolled oats

Add only after removing the dog portion

  • 2 teaspoons dried rosemary or thyme
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Optional onion or garlic—human bowl only

🐕 Dog portion

Four small mini meatloaves for occasional treats or toppers, not four servings for one dog.

Use from the shared base

  • About one third of the unseasoned turkey mixture
  • 4 short pieces of plain green bean for pumpkin stems
  • Plain cooked sweet potato, mashed, for small ghosts
  • Tiny blueberry pieces for optional ghost eyes
  • No salt, onion, garlic, gravy, butter or seasoning

Keep the decorations modest: the playful shape is the point. Avoid turning the bowl into an oversized meal or piling on rich toppings.

Method

1

Prepare two separate trays

Heat the oven to 200°C conventional or 180°C fan-forced. Line one tray for the dog mini meatloaves and a second tray for the human meal.

2

Make the shared plain base

Mix the turkey mince, pure pumpkin, egg and rolled oats just until combined. Do not add seasoning yet.

3

Separate the dog mixture first

Transfer one third of the plain mixture to a clean bowl. Shape it into four small round meatloaves. Press shallow pumpkin ridges around each one and add a short green-bean stem.

4

Season the human mixture

Add the herbs, paprika, mustard, salt and pepper to the remaining mixture. If using onion or garlic, add it only now, after the dog portion and utensils are safely separate. Shape four larger mini meatloaves.

5

Bake thoroughly

Bake both trays for 20–25 minutes. Check the centre of every meatloaf reaches 75°C. Use separate utensils and allow the dog meatloaves to cool completely.

6

Make the sweet-potato ghosts

Spoon or pipe small mounds of plain mashed sweet potato beside the dog meatloaf. Add tiny blueberry pieces for eyes if desired. Keep the dog serving small and refrigerate the remaining mini meatloaves.
