A deeply warming meal for dogs showing cold signs like lethargy, seeking warm spots, cold ears, or weak digestion.
All ingredients are warming in TCM
Cook oats according to package directions. Oats are a warming grain that provides gentle, sustained energy. Set aside.
In a large pot, lightly brown the lamb pieces in olive oil over medium heat. This enhances the warming properties. Add minced ginger and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add pumpkin, sweet potato, and water/broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes until lamb is cooked and vegetables are tender.
Add kale in the last 2 minutes. Mix in cooked oats. Let cool to a warm (not hot) temperature before serving. Store in fridge up to 4 days. Serve at room temp or slightly warm.
This recipe is ideal for winter, older dogs losing vitality, or dogs showing "cold" signs (seeking warmth, cold ears, low energy). The ginger aids digestion and amplifies warming. If your dog shows any heat signs after eating this (panting, red skin), reduce frequency or add some neutral vegetables.
